Atlas, the humanoid robot created by Google-owned Boston Dynamics, is beginning to have a life of its own. Sort of.

In a YouTube video that appeared in the past 24 hours, Atlas can be seen walking through the woods. The only thing trailing the bot is its power cord. But even that might come off sooner rather than later.

The video shows Marc Raibert, the founder of the Waltham-based company, showing Atlas off to an audience at the 11th Fab Lab Conference and Symposium at MIT. VentureBeat first reported on the video.

"This isn't completely out in the world because there's the power tether," said Raibert. "But we're working on a version that doesn't have that."
