The need to strengthen cross-border cooperation in investigation, information exchange and capacity-building in the face of the growing professionalisation of cybercrime will be a key area for discussion during the 3rd Europol – INTERPOL Cybercrime Conference.
Bringing together in The Hague over 350 cyber specialists from law enforcement, the private sector and academia from 66 countries, the three-day conference (30 September – 2 October) will look at ways all involved sectors can work more closely together to maximise cooperation through their respective areas of expertise.
This year, speakers from private industry will include the Assistant General Counsel of Microsoft Corp. Digital Crime Unit, Mr Richard Boscovich, and the Executive Director of the European Banking Federation, Mr Sébastien de Brouwer, both of whom will deliver keynote speeches on the threats perceived by their respective industries.
The 2015 Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment (IOCTA), the annual report on the cybercrime threat landscape prepared by Europol's European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), will also be presented and discussed at the conference. Mr Wil van Gemert, Deputy Director Operations at Europol, said: "Together with INTERPOL, this third edition of the Cybercrime Conference shows that we are increasingly committed to build effective partnerships between law enforcement, private industry and academia to tackle one of the biggest and most pervasive challenges of our age to our security – the ever growing threat of cybercrime."
"The last 12 months have shown some remarkable successes by law enforcement in the fight against cybercrime. Building upon these past successes, law enforcement has to continue pushing the boundaries of traditional policing and identify new ways to tackle this criminal phenomenon. Further international cooperation with a wide range of actors is paramount for keeping the Internet safe from organised crime."
Mr Noboru Nakatani, Executive Director of the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI), said: "Through the IGCI, INTERPOL is committed to making innovation in policing a priority. All of us representing law enforcement, the private sector, governments and academia must work together to build a solid defence against the growing threat of cybercrime."

It is hosted alternately by Europol's Cybercrime Centre in The Hague and the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore.
